Study tip #3

My study tip number three is without a doubt the fact that people need faith, when i say faith i don't mean in a religious way, faith in terms of your grade. That your homework that you do will help you out in the long run and that will bring determination and more effort.

Music List#4

Always and Forever- Heatwave
Black President-Nas
Love vs. Money- The Dream
Ice Cream paint job- lil Wayne
I'm lily- T.I.
My music list includes R&B and rap. The song by Heatwave is a old song that i love to hear. It starts off slow then it goes very up tempo with him singing to the top of his lungs. You can hear his voice almost shake when he hits the top notes. My other songs are more rap and lyrics based. Other than this song which i just listen to and i can relate my emotions with. The next song is from an artist that i respect is Nas. His full name is Nasir and he is a artist that actually named a album called Nigger. But was later names Untilited. The song that he has on my list is Black president. Its about how we once stated that Black President is something that we were not ready for. But then it says yes we can due to our president now being Barrack Obama. The next song that i like is Love vs. Money. It is a song related love vs money and how what is more important. Love or money. It is a comparison that i find very important and its lyrics are a definite must have on my ipod. The last song that i appreciate is Ice cream paint job by lil wayne. Lil wayne did a freestyle song.

Bible study- non muse event#2

My event was mon. 16 and the event was bible study in hoover hall. The book we use for the event was Jesus without religion. We do this event every monday, and we speak and talk about issues that freshman are having difficulty with. Last monday we talked about how being non violent and turning the other cheek. Now at some point our society tells us to stand up and fight back. And that our world will be horrible if everyone never fought back. But looking at the perspective isn't that what jesus did? He took the beating cursing and other assaults and did nothing to the victimization. And if we are just trying to be like Jesus, shouldn't we do the same. I personally have this issue because i don't give a rats ass about anyone and being Christian i am not doing what i am supposed to do. But it is a conflict of whats more important. the society that i live in? or my religion? because they are telling me to do different things. Its an issue that concerns me and i talked with the people in the group about. It was a good Monday, i learned a lot.

Music Review

My music review is on War by Edwin Starr. It is a compelling song that i have heard over the years but have never really looked up the lyrics. And once i did i had a completely different view and perspective. In the song he constantly talks about what war is good for " absolutely noting"
He gives his own opinion about war and how it only destroys. it can never create. I related this song because for one i understand how music is an outlet for many people to express there own opinions to other people. And how music is directly connected to the youth. So in this song he is talking to the youth telling them to not listen to the old telling them to fight and die but rather create peace and understand life is "too short and precious to spend fighting wars these days".
It does create an one sided opinion and i understand that some things are worth fighting for. but at the same time it always depends what your fighting for and how you fight.

Interview with a senior.

I recently interview two seniors who work at ucat, the building to the right of Clark hall. The names of the students are Sandy Banuelos, who is majoring in Business. And Matt who declined to give me his last name, is majoring in international business. I met them by asking them these questions the first week of school. They were working and i had gotten lost, and so after they showed me around school and told me a lot of the do's and donts of school. And it especially revolved around relationships. They told me that one thing that they would change is that freshman year to never get into a relationship, because by the third or fourth year you will have found someone better. They also told me about the two month rule that explains how freshman behave the first two months and how people generally act now that they are in college. Sandy told me that her college experience revolved around freshman year. And after that school got boring and now she doesnt know what to do with her life now that she is graduating. Matt however told me that college was a blast ever since he joined a Fraternity, and has lots of interesting stories to tell me everytime i see him. They both told me that what they would do differently is to avoid parties that you dont know how to get to. Because otherwise the consequences can be very harsh. And advise they both told me was to always wrap up. Which i also take very seriously.

Scholarly Journal Article Summary

My article is on the Jackson 5, which was a music group that started unofficially in 1962. The group consisted of Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon ,and Michael. The group had a string of hits in the early 70's and every single they made was either on the top 20 hit list or top ten in soul hits. The article was in depth more with Micheal's career towards the group and less about the group as a whole. The article talked about some of the rough times Micheal had with his family and his father. And the fact that he didn't grow up like a regular kid didn't help either. The article did point out how every Jackson five song was immediately recognizable able. Micheal has his high pitched voice shadowed by Jermaine. The Jackson five's music videos are as unique as their songs. With all Afro's, bright shirts and dancing in sync. The Jackson five hit was another Motown group hit.The article then went down the list for the hits that the Jackson five had created, some of which i still listen to. But then the article talked about how Motown then went for the solo artists. Making Micheal a solo artist as well as Jermaine. They both had success by 1971. The Jackson five were inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame in 1997.

Music Memories # 2

My music memories i have interviewed my dad, Levi Swindell Sr. And he was born in 1955. He is about 53 and i had asked him the following questions.
1. What music genre did you listen to when you were a teenager?
2. Did your music interests change as you aged to an adult?
3. Do you like the current music of today?
4. Reflecting do you think that music has changed society?

My father answered the questions without thought as he feels that the music that i listen to has no meaning compared to the music that he has listened to. Me and my father seem apart because of our positions on that argument, but we are more similar than i thought before i wrote this essay. Levi listened to Motown oldies when he grew up. Smokey, temptations, and the Jackson five where some of his favorite artist/groups. He stated that he did not change interest in the songs but listened to slow jams compared to the up beat songs of that genre. He stated that he does not like the current hip hop rap songs that i listen to. But he appreciates some of the R&B songs saying that they copied them from the past. As he reflected he thinks that music has definitely changed society reminding me of Sam Cooke- a change is gonna come. My father has never been to concerts, but says he has spent his time at disco's. He was born around the time where music was not as degrading towards other people and always enjoyed music that pertained to or about African Americans having a good time. I feel its because of his circumstance of being raised in a extremely poor environment. My father was to say the least no trying to help the world become a better place, he was trying to make the world a better place for him. And that can be understood by the music that he intentionally segregates. I do not blame him, everyone has their reasons for listing to certain music types.

As i reflect on the interview with my father. I understand now how i like the motown music and oldies, because that's all they listened to when i was growing up. But one clear difference is that my father has never liked alternative rock or anything close to it. A difference because of where i was raised compared to where he lived when he was my age. This underlying difference of where i was raised compared to my father is the point where i listen to music that he finds illogical. Another reason is that the music in my time consists of hip hop, rap, r&B, alternative rock, etc. The music that is in my time is a whole lot more degrading than my fathers time. And i choose to listen to music that i like, which spans to all music genres in one way or another. I parallel him to his music genre but i then span into my own music that i listen to that he chooses not to. Me and my father do not like going to concerts but we both like disco's, disco's for him. And Clubs/Functions for me. My father is quick to shoot down music of today but i argue that we are a result of the past. And the songs that he listens to has more of a subliminal message of sex compared of music of today which lyrically it is more blunt then ever. Which proves a point that this class shows about in the past things were more conservative than now.

Muse event

My Non muse event was a Base meeting, which stands for Black Alliance of Scientist and Engineers, September 24 at 7pm in the Ohlone room.
The meeting was an invited speaker on Hp, Hewitt Packered. The leazion of Hp was speaking about how engineering was a possibility in Hp. He described the daily lifestyle of different engineers and how it sounds almost like a dream job. As informative as it was i was impressed on how the industry was interested in trying to hire internships. I was also interested in how the Campus Community is different each time i turn a corner in Sjsu. At the base meeting everyone was dressed up in slacks and collar shirts. Except for me of course because i was unaware that's what is expected when an invited speaker is present. An expirence that i will not forget because i will always dress up for another meeting.
For me after is that i realised that it was more about learning how to make a good or great resume. And how to have a great personality when looking for a job. We did some ice breakers and learned that staying positive and determined is what employers is looking for. It was also relvant that is was sometimes who you know not what you know.

Study tip #2

My next study tip would be to always ask for help. I recently had to ask for help with one of my math assignments and the fortunate thing is that those problems were exactly on the test. I think this is an important aspect because the fact that i was willing to ask and recieve help ultimately decided the grade on that test. Always asking for help is a tip i would give so that when you do study you can do it and be productive at the same time.

Music list #3

The five songs that i hate are
1. love lockdown- kanye west
2. love games- lady gaga
3. Halle Berry (She's Fine) Hurricane Chris
4.
Drop And Give Me 50″ (Mike Jones & Hurricane Chris)
5."Ay Bay Bay" by Hurricane Chris
I hate these songs because they just sound like complete garbage. I hate kanye west's whole album because it was just so depressing. Lady Gaga because to me it sounds annoying and Hurricane Chris because his songs make me realise why alot of people dont understand hip hop. Its when garbage like this get out and it is mainstreamed to the public as what songs should be played. Ay bay bay? you cant be seriously calling white folks, gansta's, and the thugs ay bay bay. Sounds homosexual if you ask me. And not to mention that he is not even 21. Mike jones and his song drop and give me 50 just makes me wanna just say eff my life when i hear it. But some of his songs are good, just not this one. I hate these songs because they are just not appealling to me at all. other songs by these artists might be better than these and i might listen to them. but these five are my worst songs ever...

Talking about Sex

Sexual pressures that are faced by the average freshman tend to relate to having relations with girls. Not relationships. Many are delighted with this fact because it tends to be more of a right of passage ideology that incoming freshman get to just have fun and have as much sex as possible. And colleges tend to further feed this frenzy by giving out free condoms to make sure they have protected sex. Now there is nothing wrong with that, but it only makes it easier to have more sex this way. The pressures tend to be more on the women than men because if something extreme happens the women get more of the burden than men. And that fact is apart of the rules of dating, which are loosely bound together and are typically different for each person. Number one rule for me that i have known and have talked to many girls about is to never ask for or look for them online unless it is acceptable. There are exceptions to that rule but generally if you don't want to look like a stalker get to know her. and if your talking to her enough facebook or my-space discussion will come up. and you will have a chance to add her or whatever and then look. Never before though, you will run the risk of looking too possessive.

Advice for someone who is younger than me is to always stay protected no matter what happens. Because college is a place where people re-invent themselves for the better or worse. And i have seen people do some of the worst things already and im just a freshman. So i would also tell them that to never change unless you absolutely need to.

drugs of choice

The acceptable drugs for freshman in college is without a doubt Weed. marijuana to be exact. Not only is this drug prevalent in all areas of college it is socially acceptable as a way to relax from the college drama and issues. It is especially drug of choice because it is a hot topic due to the fact that California has made it partially legal to grow and sell. I do not smoke marijuana because i use sports and other physical abilities to let out my stress into a positive area as some college students do not. There are several temptations in college as the parties get out of control and it is very easy to lose yourself. And i have been to one recently where i had to help this person who was drunk out of the house. I physically had to pick them up and carry them out due to them being drunk.
Another acceptable taboo is drinking. Most of my friends drink and do it occasionally. I do not drink for the same reason why i don't smoke but i find it a taboo i will never mess with. My friends on the other hand will. And not only will they drink, they will get drunk like you see on movies falling over everything. These two drugs are the easiest access and are prevalent in college. Its even a stereotype that college students will do these things their first year. My doctor even told me that my stand on drinking and smoking will most likely change but i hold fast to my beliefs and control myself and continue playing sports and not doing anything negative to my body.

Music list #2

1. Crazy world- Young Jeezy
2.Make her say- kid cudi feat kayne and Common
3. Comfortable- lil wayne
4.Lolipop remix- lil wayne feat Kanye
5. Meeting in my bedroom- Silk

My favorite song would be Make her say by kid cudi feat kayne and Common. I feel that this is my favorite song because when most people listen to the song they do not know it is about oral sex. And it always makes me laugh when i have to explain to them that its not about really poker face, its Poke Her Face. It sounds the same but it has a completely different meaning. A meaning that is misunderstood.

Google Myself.

When i googled my self i was expecting to see my facebook page and alot about Isaac, because of Sir Isaac Newton. And Swindell because it is a last name that just has alot of people with. But when i did google myself i saw my Max Preps page. Which is a page for my football stats, and thats all that i saw. I Saw alot of stuff about sir isaac and stuff about him because he is known more than me of course. And there is always something about Swindell Genealogy but what really astonished me is that there was a Isaac Swindell Facebook on the first page of google.. But it wasnt mine at all!! haha wow i couldnt believe that another Isaac Swindell google favored more. That really made me mad but i dont really care because in another year or so i will be the number one Isaac Swindell. Until then all i have to say for that copy cat isaac.... HIS TIME IS RUNNING OUT

Music Memories # 1

When i was little my parents would listen to nothing but oldies music. Motown, Jackson five, Temptations, and a whole bunch of others. As a kid i would enjoy listening to that music but i was also affected by any music that i heard. Movies, TV, radio, and even people that would sing to themselves. I have carried that over my whole life. But when i was about 12 i started to listen to hip hop and rap. I have heard it before but i didn't know the names of the songs or the lyrics. So i then started to listen to rap while i still listened to other types of music. A key moment was when Linkin Park came out with the album Hybrid Theory. At first i didn't like rock at all until one day i was lifting weights and a Linkin park song came on. I felt pumped up and i liked that song it energized me. Ever since then i listen to linkin park as well as some other alternative rock music. My friends on the other hand are very secular in that there music is only about rap and hip hop. I used to be made fun of the music that i listen to until the day they realized that they missed out on some really good music. They would think that any music other than rap R&B or hip hop would be only for whites. And if you still listened to it you would be called a wanna be white kid. But that's why there stuck in the same area they grew up in because they didn't want to expand there music, beliefs, and become more open.

study tip #1

My first study tip would be to first put it in your mind that you can remember the things that you want to remember.. Most people dont think that they can remember and thus they dont remember.. So you have to be determined and stay focus to believe that whatever you want to study you can remember and study it.

my ten songs are from all genres that emcompass my emotions as well a reflection of events
1. Linkin Park-P5hng Me A*Wy (Mike Shinoda ft. Stephen Richards)
it has a good beat as well as lyrics that i can relate to.

2. stevie wonder- Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing

3. Linkin Park -Wth>You (Chairman Hahn ft. Aceyalone)
This song i like because it is an reanimated or remix to the original. i dont typically like listining to rock but this song i like the most.

4. Boys 2 men- Thank you
I like this song because it is all about thanking someone for what they have done for them. And not a rant on about what they got that other people want. Boys to men is a group that many of the songs i really like but this one is my favorite.

5. Charlie Wilson-There Goes My Baby
I like this song because of the fact that it came out this year and it is more of an oldies feel to the music. it reminds me of the music that my parents listen to and i used it to ask out a girl.... and it worked!!!

6. Lil wayne-Every girl
haha i love this song because it talks about the most outrageous thing and what some guys actually perceive that they can accomplish. i like it because of the hook and how the lyrics are....funny

7. Tupac Ft. Biggie-Runnin' (Dying to Live)
i personally like all of Tupac songs but this one is about dying to live. and the hook..why am i dying to live..if im living to die... it makes me think and not just take everyday for granted.

8. Tupac-Broken_Wings

I like this song because it is another deep song by Tupac and talks about his mistakes and how he is asking god to fix these Broken Wings... his mistakes. I like it because it makes me think and appreciate life.

9. Apologize (Remix) (Ft. One Republic & Unknown) - Timbaland-

This song i like because its like he is tired of all the BS that he had with this girl and is fed up... so he just doesn't care anymore. i like it because this song had a lot of remixes but no one knows who wrote it...

10. Fort Minor- Right now

This is my all time favorite songs that i have ever heard. Its like a narration of what they see in the city the good as well as the bad parts. i like how they each write there own hook after each verse

Myself

um... i took this class by accident but its alright, the only thing is that my expensive ass computer could not get on wireless access.. like a dog that doesnt bark i found that my computer is useless. other than my hayabusa wallpaper. I like this class i find that its interesting and i get to try to use my computer. i dont think i will listen to alot of rock, but i will listen to alot of Motown music. like the Temptations, smokey, and such. oh by the way my name is Isaac Swindell.. pronounced Swin DELL. not swinDULL. i hate that with a passion like if im at safeway or best buy people are always saying swindull. so yeah im a freshman in SJSU having too much damn fun for a freshman.
